Reduce your carbon footprint…
Imagine a world wherein people are conscious of their actions. A world where we know the impact of our choices and choose accordingly. Where everyone cares for our planet.
That is the Earth I plan to leave behind for my children and his children and for generations to come.
We have a choice. Everyone of us can contribute it in our own special ways in reducing the carbon footprint we are leaving behind. Here’s a compilation of how, small choices you make and little alterations to lifestyle you adopt, can have significant impact on our planet !!!
Green Travel:
- Try using public transport wherever possible. Factor in some extra time to enable this.
- Invest in video conferencing. Besides avoiding transport, you shall also be saving on travel time, which shall increase productivity!
- Maintain proper air tyre pressure and overall maintain your vehicle.
Green Consumption:
- Use reusable glass bottles for milk instead of plastic cartons.
- Seek out products which can be recycled, sold or donated when you are finished using it.
- Before you buy, look at whether products have an environmental energy rating or water rating label.
- Can you make it policy to buy products that have Energy Star features or a ’sleep’ mode for when they are not being used?
Conserve Water:
- Stop water leakages.
- If you place a ’save-a-flush’ in your cistern, you could save 10 liters of water – the same amount as a citizen the developing world uses in one day.
- Fit all taps with efficiency devices e.g. Tap Magic reduces water wastage by up to 70% but also enables you to have the normal full flow.
- Avoid doing activities with running water. For e.g. fill up your basin and then shave instead of using running water.
- Instead of washing each vessel individual, collect them and wash @ one go.
- You can save enough water to fill an Olympic swimming pool (2.5 million liters) after one year of replacing 10 traditional urinals with waterless alternatives.
Save Energy:
- You could save 1kg of C02 in one week if 12 people bought affordable solar chargers and used them to charge their mobiles, digital cameras and portable CD/MP3 players.
- Think about the profile of your fleet: diesel, hybrid, electric. What about replacing a couple of your fleet cars with electric city cars. The ‘G-Wiz’ is cheap to buy, cheap to run and carbon neutral for up to 16,000 miles. Three ‘G-Wiz’ cars used for business travel could save 10 tones of CO2.
- Next time you’re away from your desk for a considerable length of time, switch off your computer screen. If 20 people followed suit, you could save 1kg of CO2 in one hour.
- Using an energy saving light bulb over four days instead of a standard 100w bulb will also save the same amount. Use application like Local Cooling software and install it on your computer to save electricity.
- Replace CRT monitors with LCD ones and save energy and money too !
Reduce Waste:
- Don’t throw away thing. Either donate or recycle.
- If its computers, donate it to charity organizations.
- Encourage suppliers and contractors to take back waste for re-use and recycling.
- Wood flooring is durable and attractive and saves CO2 compared to carpet and vinyl.
There are many more ways in which you could reduce your carbon footprint.
