An SEO Checklist for your Website Domain, Content and Architecture
Optimizing a website for search engine optimization isn’t particularly difficult. It’s usually just a matter of knowing what to do, how to do it and having the time to get it done. Also, optimizing a website isn’t particularly easy either.
I’ve always been a lover of checklists and over the last couple of years I’ve been jotting down together checklists for all kinds that pertains to website optimization. Find below my website optimization checklist covering most important aspects of your website – domain name, content and architecture.
For your website domain:
• Short and easy to remember
• Use product or service Keywords
• Website.com automatically redirects to www. version
• Home page redirect to root URL
• Filenames with no underscores
• Registered for more than 5 years
For your website content:
• Only customer focused
• Grab the visitor’s interest
• Tie need to benefits
• Justify and call for action
• Get to the best things quickly
• Reading level is appropriate
• Benefits and features
• Explain industry jargons
• No typo, grammar or spelling errors
• Contain internal contextual links
• Link out to authoritative sources
• Enhancing keyword usage
For website architecture:
• Validate CSS
• Validate HTML
• Flat directory structure
• Right robots.txt file
• Proper site hierarchy
• Unique title for each page
• No use of frames
• Title reflects webpage information and heading
• Alt tag for images
• Unique description on each page
